Legal Notices
Process for Government, Criminal, and Civil Legal Notices
How do I submit a request?
All law enforcement requests should be submitted to legalnotices@convoso.com. Civil matters and private party requests must be served as required by applicable law or rule. Convoso asks that the requester send a courtesy copy to legalnotices@convoso.com.
All requests should be legally valid, appropriately scoped, and sufficiently detailed. Requests must:
Have a valid legal basis and have been issued pursuant to applicable laws and rules in the jurisdiction of the agency making the request.
Be signed and submitted by someone with the authority to make the request.
Be clear and not overly broad.
Include specific identifiers sufficient to identify responsive information.
Include the specific time period for which information is requested
Be as narrow and specific as possible to avoid misinterpretation, objection, and/or challenge in response to an unclear, inappropriate, or overbroad request.
U.S. Government & Law Enforcement
Convoso will comply as required by applicable laws with subpoenas and other requests for information from U.S. government agencies and law enforcement entities. Convoso will accept service of such requests from U.S. government agencies and law enforcement entities via email at legalnotices@convoso.com. Convoso will not process any such request unless received from the requesting party’s official government or law enforcement email address. In the transmittal email attaching a request for information, please include the requesting official’s name, title, and telephone number. Convoso will provide basic subscriber information only in response to a valid subpoena. Convoso will only provide information beyond basic subscriber information in response to a court order under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(d) (or the equivalent under applicable state law). Basis subscriber information includes information such as name, email address, account application documentation, and service usage information. Information beyond basic subscriber information includes information such as metadata, email fields, transaction details, etc. For all other requests involving “content” (e.g., requests that would not give prior notice to the subscriber and requests that would not comply with the delayed notice provisions of 18 U.S.C. §2705(a)), Convoso will produce such information only in response to a valid search warrant.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, Convoso will only provide information in accordance with its Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Further, Convoso reviews all subpoenas to ensure there is a valid legal basis for each request. Convoso will object, challenge, or reject requests that are unclear, inappropriate, overbroad, or lack valid legal basis.
Availability and Exigent Requests
Normal Hours of Availability: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
Exigent Formal Lawful Requests: For exigent circumstances as defined by agency guidelines, email legalnotices@convoso.com with "Exigent" in the subject line. Written requests are required.
Civil Matters & Private Party Subpoenas and Requests
For requests related to any civil matters, as well as requests made by private parties, Convoso will not accept service via email. Instead, if a request pertains to a civil matter or if you are a private party (i.e., not a government or law enforcement entity), you must use a valid legal method of service as outlined in relevant statutes or applicable rules.
If you have served a subpoena on Convoso using a legally valid method of service, please send a courtesy copy of the subpoena via email to legalnotices@convoso.com with a cover note indicating that the subpoena was also validly served as required by law.
